We’re pleased to launch our new Independent Living Strategy for 2026–2029, setting out how we will continue helping customers live safely, independently and confidently in their homes and communities over the next three years.
The strategy has been shaped by feedback from customers, colleagues and partners, and focuses on the things people told us matter most — feeling safe, being treated with respect, staying independent and feeling part of a community.
Independent Living covers a wide range of services, including Later Living housing, supported living, extra-care housing, foyers, young person services and homes for customers with additional support needs.
But Independent Living is about much more than housing. It’s about creating safe, welcoming communities where people feel connected, supported and able to thrive.
What customers told us
During the consultation, customers said they wanted:
- to feel safe and secure
- to stay independent with the right support
- to feel part of a community
- to be treated with respect
- help with digital access and skills.
This feedback has directly shaped the priorities within the strategy.
What happens next
Over the next three years, customers will start to see:
- continued investment in homes and safety
- improved digital access and inclusion
- more opportunities for social connection and activities
- clearer support pathways for people who need additional help
- continued investment in staff training and wellbeing support.
We will also continue investing in existing homes and developing new specialist and supported housing to meet changing customer needs.
More than just housing
The strategy recognises that having the right home is only part of the picture. Feeling connected, supported and able to live independently is just as important.
That’s why the strategy also focuses on:
- reducing loneliness and isolation
- supporting wellbeing
- helping people age well and remain independent
- improving access to services and support
- creating stronger, more connected communities.
