International Women's Day - Break the Bias

Celebrating International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day, a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. The theme of this year’s event is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.

MSV has a long-standing commitment to the principles of equality and fairness. We believe it is a fundamental right for all employees to feel safe and respected at work. We take a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination, harassment and victimisation and are proud to call out gender bias and collectively, show our support for equal rights and embrace a culture of diversity and inclusion.

International Women's Day with Gina Rippon, author of The Gendered Brain

Join the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our annual International Women's Day celebration event with guest speaker Professor Gina Rippon, author and neuroscientist.

Do you have a female brain or a male brain? Or are we asking the wrong question?

For centuries both neuroscience and behavioural science have been pursuing a Hunt the Difference agenda, trying to find ways of characterising the differences between the brains and behaviour of females and males.

But just how different are women and men? Can brain scientists tell the differences between what they describe as female and male brains? Are women and men really distinguished by their levels of empathy or their map-reading skills? This talk revisits these old questions and introduces answers that might surprise you.

Thursday, 10 March 2022, 1pm – 3pm, at University Place, Manchester
