MSV is supporting Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight, from 12–25 October 2026, with local activities and practical advice to help keep neighbourhoods clean and welcoming.

Fly-tipping affects how our neighbourhoods look and feel, and clearing it takes time and resources. Sometimes, people pay for rubbish removal without realising their waste may be dumped illegally. By checking who you use, you can help protect yourself and keep our communities clean and welcoming.

We’re working with customers, Manchester City Council and local partners on environmental action days, waste-awareness activities and a community litter pick in Ardwick and Moss Side.

Fly tipping

Arranging rubbish removal? Check before you pay

Before handing your waste to a private rubbish-removal service:

  1. Ask for their waste carrier registration number.
  2. Check their details on the Environment Agency’s public register.
  3. Ask for and keep a receipt.

An advert on social media doesn’t prove a trader is registered. Taking a few minutes to check can help prevent your waste from being dumped illegally. For other disposal options, check your local council’s bulky-waste collection service or recycling-centre information.

If you spot fly-tipping, visit your local council’s website to find out how to report it.

Thank you to the customers, community groups and partners helping us look after our neighbourhoods.
