Music transcends language and memory in Rochdale, bringing joy and connection to people living with dementia or memory loss, and their carers.

A ten-week programme at MSV’s Khubsuret House, led by Rochdale and District Mind's Dementia Wellbeing Team and Manchester Camerata has brought the community together through song, improvisation and instruments.

Weekly singalongs over a cuppa have now evolved into a celebration of cultural diversity; the group have composed songs which include six languages.

Salma Chaudri, scheme coordinator at Khubsuret House said, "It’s been an outstanding project! We've seen new connections form and lots of laughter. This is more than just music; it's a lifeline. Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment we enjoyed watching this project come to life and evolve into an inclusive and diverse showpiece.”

Due to its resounding success, Khubsuret House are sustaining this project, in partnership with Rochdale Mind, by training music champions to continue the sessions using recorded music along with instruments provided by Manchester Camerata.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in this wonderful project.
