Your waste, Your responsibility.

It cost the council £1.3m to clear up fly-tipping in Manchester last year.

In Manchester, £1.3m was spent on dealing with 14,000 fly-tipping incidents in 2021. That is money that could be much better spent on vital services for our residents – especially in the current climate. So, we want to help Manchester City Council reduce those incidents by sharing resources to help promote the safe disposal of rubbish and household waste.

Dumping rubbish is a crime. Get rid of items properly in the first instance by ensuring you use the right recycling household bin

However, if you are paying someone to take your large unwanted items, please make sure they have a waste carrier's licence. The items will remain your property and it could be you who is prosecuted if your items are fly-tipped.

Your waste is your responsibility. Read more about getting rid of a large unwanted item.

It's also important to know that leaving items out for the 'scrapman' is against the law and is fly-tipping.

Please get rid of stuff legally –

  • Order a free collection
  • Take items to the tip
  • Donate good items to charity
