Neighbourhoods coming together for Greater Manchester hate crime awareness week

Monday, 07 February 2022

Hate Crime Awareness Week takes place from 7-13 February and represents an opportunity to bring people together and highlight Greater Manchester’s zero tolerance to hate crime.

The theme for 2022 is “LET’S make Greater Manchester the place where we look out for each other”  and aims of encouraging victims and witnesses to take a stand by reporting hate crime wherever and whenever they see it.

Hate incidents and crimes are acts of violence or hostility directed at people because of who they are or who someone thinks they are. They can be the result of disability, race, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, alternative subculture, and trans and gender reassignment.

End the Hate #fullstop - community events

MSV is partnering with residents and community organisations to host a series of hate crime events across Greater Manchester.

This series of 'End the Hate' community events have been developed to show solidarity and support against discriminatory and hateful behaviour and will enable people in the community to come together in a safe space to talk about first-hand experiences.

If you are a victim of hate crime and do not feel confident coming forward to make a report to the police, there will be lots of support on the day. MSV is a third party Hate Crime Reporting Centre and our Community Safety Team will be on hand to help anyone who would like more information or support.

MSV’s Exec Director Matt Jones said; "MSV stands in solidarity with anybody experiencing hate behaviour in communities where we operate. We are committed to challenging such behaviour in all its forms and will adopt a zero-tolerance approach, acting quickly and decisively to any reports we receive in partnership with the Police and other agencies. We do not want people to suffer in silence, all reports will be acted upon and can be made in confidence."

Our launch events aim to empower more victims to confidently report bias-motivated incidents, raise awareness of hate crime and what we can do to tackle it. It's an important step forward in creating a climate where people can go about their lives without being harassed or discriminated against. If you are experiencing behaviour that is motivated by hate and prejudice, we want to hear from you so we can take appropriate action whilst ensuring people are fully supported. Report incidents to MSV’s Community Safety Team in confidence on 0161 226 4211 or email staysafe@msvhousing.co.uk
