Gateway to Gorton undergoes transformation

MSV Development Team have led the renovations of Gorton Memorial gardens, a once neglected area which attracted anti-social behaviour. This prestigious gateway site is now a place where residents can enjoy tranquil relaxation and reflection due to a collaboration between registered housing providers and Greater Manchester Police, contributing towards a generous £26,020 cash injection.

Sadly, the works were put on hold due to Covid and contractor considerations, but this never dampened spirits in making sure these gardens were at the forefront of development works.  Thanks to an army of volunteers, this area has gone from being in a dilapidated sad state, to an oasis of calm in the midst of a busy urban landscape. The sensory garden area encourages wildlife to flourish and provides an accessible circular seating area. A permanent living Christmas Tree has also been planted at the focal point of the gardens for the community to enjoy for many years to come.

Jon Benson, Development Manager for MSV said “The renewal works for the memorial gardens on Constable Street, in Gorton has topped off some important new build developments carried out by Mosscare St Vincents, in partnership with Manchester City Council in the local area. Over the last few years MSV have built 20 flats and staff accommodation to house and support vulnerable adults. We have also built 5 bungalows for disabled and older people. This much needed specialist accommodation was all constructed on land formerly owned by Manchester City Council in close proximity to the memorial gardens.

MSV organised and part funded the work to the memorial gardens, but it would have not been possible without the extra support of Manchester City Council, Jigsaw Homes Group, One Manchester, Watson Homes and Greater Manchester Police. Our thanks is extended to all the partners who donated cash and their time to make the memorial gardens refurbishment such a success.”
