Amber Heat Warning Issued

Tuesday, 23 June 2026

The Met Office has issued an amber heat warning as exceptionally high temperatures are expected to continue throughout the week.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children, those with underlying health conditions and vulnerable residents may be at greater risk. We encourage everyone to take sensible precautions and check in on family members, friends and neighbours who may need extra support.

Staying Safe in the Heat

  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Avoid alcohol where possible, as it can contribute to dehydration.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11am and 3pm.
  • Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds during the day and opening windows when temperatures drop.
  • Check regularly on older relatives, neighbours and anyone with health conditions who may need assistance.

Looking After Pets

Don't forget that pets can also be affected by high temperatures. Make sure they have access to fresh drinking water and a cool place to rest. Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower, and never leave animals in a parked vehicle.

Plan Ahead

If you are travelling or spending time outdoors, check the latest weather forecasts and travel updates before setting out.
