Trans People are extraordinary, strong, intelligent, persistent and resilient. They have to be. Trans Rights are Human Right

Today is Trans Day of Visibility! It takes place every March to celebrate trans and non-binary people and raise awareness of discrimination faced by trans people worldwide.

Visibility is important. To be visible, especially in society can often mean feeling represented, validated, and appreciated. However, trans people can, and do experience high levels of discrimination and prejudice because of their gender identity.

We’re saddened to see a rise in anti-trans hate crime in the UK and the on-going discrimination, stigma and systemic inequality people in the trans community face on a daily basis. Police reports have risen 156% over the past four years, with a shocking 4,300 cases reported last year alone.

At MSV, we will always stand in support of the trans community and believe everyone has the right to live a life free from discrimination, regardless of their sexuality or gender identity.

We have a long-standing commitment to address inequalities and call out hate where it is identified in the neighbourhoods we work in. MSV is an approved Hate Crime Reporting Centre, which means anyone in the UK can contact us for support and help in reporting hate crime that is motivated by prejudice towards gender identity, or any other characteristic, to local authorities.

You can call us 24 hours a day to report any incidents in strict confidence on 0161 226 4211.

We are also in the process of implementing a 'Trans Inclusion and Transitioning at Work Policy', to further support employees who may be undergoing gender transition.

MSV's Community Project Officer Cath is helping to implement the policy;
“I am passionate about making MSV a safe and welcoming environment for all colleagues and customers. I feel the implementation of a Trans Inclusion and Transitioning at Work Policy' is a vital step in educating ourselves to begin to understand the issues which trans people face.

“I would love to see MSV leading the way in the housing sector in trans inclusion and forward-thinking when it comes to policy implementation.

“Ensuring happy safe spaces for all people regardless of their gender identity, trans status or any other protected characteristics.”

Preferred Pronouns

We strive to be an inclusive and caring organisation and offer the opportunity for customers to change the way MSV officers address them. If you would prefer to be addressed as Mx, a gender-neutral alternative to Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms, please let us know at enquiry@msvhousing.co.uk and we will update our systems to ensure we are able to give you the correct title in the future.
