Warning for tenants to remain vigilant as reports of bogus repair scammers targeting homes in Greater Manchester rise.
There has been an increase in the number of reports of scam calls and bogus doorstep contractors tricking their way into properties by claiming there are drainage issues or essential repair work in the area. The impersonators often turn up wearing high visibility vests, insist on entry to your home and demand money.
Please be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour.
Here are some of the latest scams tenants should be aware of and look out for:
- Cold callers informing of essential work required in your area such as blocked drains, gas repairs etc.
- Bogus repairmen offering to check your boiler.
- Offering to work on repairs you are not aware of.
- Asking for personal information or payment.
The scammers often seem credible but please be vigilant and if you suspect suspicious activity never hand over any personal information, payment or access to your property in these circumstances. If you are unsure, ask which company they work for and get the contact details from the official website to ring them to check.
Rest assured, MSV Tenants will always be notified in advance of any work that is due to happen to their home. Depending on the type of visit, this may be in the form of a letter, text message, or phone call. Tenants can also easily manage repairs online via their MyMSV customer account. When we visit your home to carry out a scheduled visit or repair, our employees and sub-contractors will always carry ID and will never ask for money.
It is important you feel safe in your home, please report suspicious behaviour to your Neighbourhood Officer or call us on 0161 226 4211.
