As we continue the celebrations for Black History Month we are shining a light on Ibby Ismail, Senior Independent Director on our Board who has contributed a huge amount to our communities and is passionate about improving peoples' lives.

Aside from the fantastic work he has done for MSV, Ibby is the Development Manager at Bolton Solidarity Community Association a charity that works mainly but not exclusively with new communities including refugees and asylum seekers in Bolton. He is also a non-executive director at Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as well as holding other trustee roles both past and present.

Ibby said: "I have been passionate about public services and the positive impact it can have on individual’s lives since a very young age and am very excited to continue working with others to work towards this goal. In my spare time I love three things. Those things are sports especially Everton FC, spending time with family and friends and writing poetry and short stories."

We asked Ibby a few questions...

What is it that you currently do at MSV?

I am a Non Exec Director and Senior Independent Director on the Board at Mosscare St Vincent's.

How did you get there?

I started my Non Executive Director journey with Bolton at Home where I stayed for 7 years and ended my tenure as Vice Chair.

What is your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement is through the work I do in the community and seeing people that I have worked with become independent and thrive.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I would love to continue in social housing in the future in any capacity where I can add value.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History for me means the ability to be inspired by the past and shape the future through the life experiences of people famous and non famous.

Who has served as an inspiration for you in your life?

My father was a big inspiration in my life and taught me and inspired me day to day before he passed.

How would you like to see MSV engage more young people of BAME backgrounds into the housing industry?

MSV do a lot of good work with the BAME community and I would like to see them build on this especially around apprentices, work placements and employment in housing and identifying and developing future leaders in any field but especially housing.
