Mediation: A Faster, Fairer Way to Resolve Neighbour Disputes
Is a disagreement with a neighbour causing you stress? We’re here to help you find a peaceful way forward.
Your home should be a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed. However, we know that misunderstandings happen. Sometimes, a simple disagreement can escalate, making life difficult for everyone involved.
We’ve partnered with Link Mediation to offer a free, independent, and proven way to resolve disputes without the stress of court or formal legal action.
What is Mediation?
Mediation is an "early-intervention" process. An independent third party (a Mediator) helps two or more people talk through their issues to find a solution that works for everyone.
The Benefits of Our Mediation Service:
- It’s an effective way to resolve disputes: Your mediator helps identify the real issues and explore solutions that lead to an agreement everyone is happy with.
- It’s independent and impartial: The mediator doesn't take sides. They are there to facilitate the conversation, not to judge.
- Aims to achieve swift resolutions: Mediation is significantly faster than legal action, often resolving issues in just a few weeks.
- It’s voluntary: You enter the process because you want to. You can withdraw at any time.
- There is no pressure to talk directly to each other: You don’t have to speak directly to your neighbour if you don't want to. We offer "Shuttle Mediation" where the mediator speaks to each person separately.
How Link Mediation Works for You
We chose Link Mediation as our specialist partner because they put people first. They take the time to understand your unique circumstances and personal challenges.
Flexible Support Options:
- Face-to-Face: Meeting in a neutral, comfortable venue to talk things through.
- Shuttle Mediation: The mediator acts as the "person in the middle," going back and forth between parties until a resolution is reached.
- Conflict Coaching: One-on-one support to help you develop skills to manage and de-escalate disagreements yourself—even if the other party doesn't want to take part.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this replace tenancy enforcement?
No. If there is evidence of serious anti-social behaviour or a breach of tenancy, we will take the necessary legal steps. However, in many cases, mediation is the quickest and most effective way to stop a problem from growing.
How long does it take?
While complex cases can take 6 weeks or more, many disputes are settled in just one or two sessions.
Is it private?
Yes. Mediation is a confidential process designed to build trust and strengthen neighbourhood relationships.
