Our UCAN Centre helped David turn his life around after a serious illness

MSV resident David started attending ‘Barrier Busting’ sessions, run by Cath McCan, at our UCAN Centre after a serious illness meant he had to leave his full time job as an HGV driver.

David had lost his confidence having been so independent prior to his illness.

He worked with Cath to find a new direction that would also accommodate his health needs and, after a stringent interview process, he was offered a volunteering position at the Greater Manchester Fire Service.

David, 51, has now been volunteering for 3 months and said:  “Volunteering has been the best thing for me.  It’s amazing what people like Cath do.  Thank you for not giving up on me.  This time three years ago I was all but giving up. Mosscare St Vincent's and the UCAN deserve medals with honours.”

The ‘Barrier Busting’ sessions are run by Cath McCan of Bolton Community Homes who has helped people all over the North West.

If you are interested in any of our sessions at the UCAN, please call Debbie on 01204 794951
