Our legacy - the St Vincent De Paul Society

St Vincent de Paul SociertyWe were delighted to present a donation to Greg Pelham of the St Vincent de Paul Society today in recognition of St Vincent’s legacy.

St Vincent’s Housing Association was founded back in 1971 by members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), an international Christian voluntary organisation committed to providing friendship and practical assistance to anyone in need.  Greg Pelham worked with St Vincent’s for 19 years as board member and shareholder and has provided huge support to the Association.

Greg Pelham spoke of the founding days of St Vincent’s and referred to Father Tom Mulheran addressing members of the SVP in April 1971.  His words were: “I am here this afternoon with a direct request to you, the members of the SVP, to help in this field of homelessness. I come to you because I sincerely believe that your aims, ideals and works are needed in this fight (against homelessness).”

Mosscare St Vincent’s are absolutely committed to taking the values of both legacy organisations forwards and the Vincentian principles of personal engagement and cooperative action will continue to benefit many more customers and communities in the future.

The St Vincent de Paul Society continues its amazing work in tackling poverty across England and Wales, with over 10,000 volunteers. They offer a core friendship service along with community support projects (including community shops, furniture stores and advice centres), youth work, holiday provision and overseas aid.
