Yellow Heat Health Alert Issued for the North West

Tuesday, 12 August 2025

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow heat health alert for the North West region, in effect from tomorrow, Tuesday 12 August, until 6pm on Wednesday 13 August.

This alert means that temperatures are expected to be unusually high, which could have impacts on health - particularly for older people, young children, and those with existing medical conditions.

How to stay safe in hot weather:

  • Keep cool indoors, by closing curtains on rooms that face the sun and using fans if needed.

  • Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and avoid excess alcohol.

  • Limit sun exposure, especially between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is strongest.

  • Check in on vulnerable people, including neighbours, friends, or relatives who may need extra support.

  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time.
