Staying Safe in the Sun

Thursday, 19 June 2025

With temperatures soaring over the next few days, remember to stay safe in the sun.

  • Try and keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
  •  If you have to go out, walk in the shade, wear light clothing and a wide brimmed hat and apply sunscreen regularly (minimum Factor 30)
  • Have plenty of cold drinks to keep hydrated (avoiding too much alcohol)
  • Ensure children wear a hat or head covering and light, loose- fitting cotton clothes
  • Close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
  • Avoid exercising in the hottest parts of the day
  • If you are going into open water to cool down, take care and follow the safety advice
  • Provide plenty of water and shade for pets and walk dogs early or late in the day

Stay cool and stay safe!
