Remembering Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe
We are deeply saddened by the tragic killing of 15-year-old Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe in Moss Side. Everyone at MSV Housing would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.
In the wake of this tragedy, we are working with St James Church in Moss Side to establish a safe space for people affected by the news.
The church will open its doors to members of the Somalian community who knew Mohanad and his family, along with the wider Moss Side community, on Thursday, October 16th and Thursday, October 23rd 10am - 11.30am at St James Church on Princess Road.
Addressing knife crime
This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need to address the issue of knife crime in our city. There were more than 1,500 knife crime incidents in Manchester last year – that’s up 70% in the last decade.
We cannot allow this to continue.
We already work with projects like Street Doctors and the CEG mentoring service to provide education and support to young people and families around the impact of knife crime.
In the coming months, MSV will be launching Blunt Truth, a new initiative across the communities of Moss Side, Rusholme and Hulme to raise further awareness of the issue.
We will be running the project in partnership with Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Jigsaw Homes, CEG, The Powerhouse, Hideaway, One Manchester, Kyso and Street Doctors. Please keep an eye out for more information on this project in the coming weeks.
