We are making lots of progress at MSV in our retrofit programme, investing over £8 million to upgrade 1,800 pre-1919 terraced homes across Stockport and Manchester. This initiative, in partnership with contractor GGI, is transforming older properties into energy-efficient, healthier, and more affordable homes for residents.

By 2028, we plan to retrofit an additional 1,200 homes. The programme aims for 97% of MSV homes to have an improved energy rating of at least an EPC C by 2028.

Resident wellbeing is central to our sustainability strategy and providing safe, healthy, and affordable housing is a top priority. The insulation programme has improved thermal efficiency and ventilation, creating healthier environments and lowering energy bills to combat fuel poverty. We have also addressed condensation and humidity to prevent damp and mould, improving long-term health.

The positive impact of the retrofit program is already being felt by our customers.

Alain shared, "It’s brilliant, they’ve done a fantastic job and I’m really happy about it because the house is warm. I’m saving money as well and it’s less noisy."

Mohammed highlighted the health benefits for his family: "My daughter has always suffered from asthma... Since the insulation works my heating doesn’t need to be on as high in her room, which has relieved some of the symptoms of her asthma. My bills are now lower too."

Sally shared the significant impact on her health: “I suffer from COPD, I have previously had to put a coat on in the mornings as I really suffer, since the insulation work was carried out, I have noticed a massive difference.”

We are shortly beginning a £1.4 million project at Khubsuret House, an over-60s scheme in Rochdale, to fully decarbonise it and meet Government Regulations. Work will start later this year to replace gas boilers with ground source heat pumps in 33 apartments and install cavity wall insulation.

Through this important work we are not only decarbonising schemes but we also hope to bring healthier homes to our customers

What is the energy efficiency programme?

We are investing in over 1200 homes, spending millions by 2030 to boost energy efficiency and make homes fit for the future.

We will get in touch with you if your home could be eligible for energy efficiency works. You don't need to do anything.

To qualify: You must live in an MSV home with solid walls, within a specified energy rating

Our programme of works includes:

  • Internal wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • New energy efficient doors
  • Improved ventilation

The work aims to make your home warmer, more comfortable and potentially save you hundreds of pounds on your annual energy bills.

The carbon footprint of your home will be greatly reduced and we aim to bring these homes up to a minimum EPC rating of C.
