New homes in Urmston for people who have experienced homelessness or rough sleeping

Tuesday, 29 April 2025

We were delighted to show colleagues and friends from Trafford Council round our joint partnership project, Shawe View in Urmston yesterday. This new scheme provides people who have previously been rough sleeping or homeless with a lovely cottage style apartment and support to live independently. We are so happy with these new homes and look forward to welcoming the new residents next month. Read more and see some photos below.

A new housing scheme has been launched in Trafford for people who have previously experienced homelessness or rough sleeping. MSV, working alongside partners Trafford Council, have launched the scheme at Shawe View in Urmston.

The fully furnished apartments, which have been built on part of a former car park, provide 12 one bedroom two person flats for social rent. Social rent is typically between 50% and 70% below the local market rent and offers a truly affordable option for renters.

The development – the first ‘move-on’ accommodation in Trafford – is for people who have previously experienced homelessness in the borough and are now looking to take their next step towards living independently. Typically, people will live at Shawe View for up to two years before moving on to a more permanent independent home.

The scheme has been developed with a Homes England grant allocation of £741k.

The Cottage style self-contained apartments are allocated via Housing Options Service Trafford (HOST), which is Trafford Council’s housing support team. New residents will be those who have already engaged successfully with support services and are ready to work with their appointed support worker.

Shawe View has been built and managed on the successful model to other existing move-on schemes MSV runs in Manchester.

MSV and Trafford Council expect new residents to move in, and the scheme to be fully occupied, within a couple of months.

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said: “Trafford Council is totally committed to helping prevent people become homeless and has made providing a thriving economy and homes for all a major priority. These new homes will provide safe and secure accommodation for people who have experienced homelessness and sleeping rough on the streets. Thank you to MSV and Homes England for all your help and support on this. This Council remains very proud to be helping the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Charlie Norman, Chief Executive of MSV Housing Group, said: "I would like to thank Trafford Council and Homes England for partnering with MSV on this important scheme. The opening of Shawe View marks a significant step forward in supporting homeless people in the borough and shows how working together and closely collaborating with our partners at the council can make a real difference, creating environments where people can flourish. A warm, safe home is the springboard to a stable and healthy life, and I’m really pleased to hear that the residents are poised to move in, l wish them all the very best".
