Free school meal update

Wednesday, 28 October 2020

We would like to make all of our customers in Stockport aware of the following information from Stockport County Council:

Stockport Council are committed to ensuring no child goes hungry this half term and will be funding meal vouchers for all children who are currently receiving means tested free school meals.  If your child is currently eligible for free school meals, you will shortly receive a £15 per child supermarket voucher for either Asda, Tesco or Aldi.

There is lots of help out there and anyone who is struggling can pick up the phone and call Stockport Council’s Coronavirus Helpline, who will ensure you get the support you need. No one should be struggling alone.

If you are eligible, and require assistance to use the voucher because you are self-isolating or cannot access the named supermarket you can contact the Coronavirus Helpline on 0161 217 6046 who can arrange help with shopping or getting online to place an order.

The Helpline can also provide information about the other types of support available if you are experiencing financial difficulties, including arranging an emergency food delivery, and help with everyday living costs like fuel.

The Coronavirus Helpline is open Monday to Thurs from 9am to 5pm and Friday from 9am to 4.30pm.

Information on local foodbanks who can provide short term help and low cost food organisations can be found here: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus-help-vulnerable-people/food-poverty-coronavirus
